In Bengaluru, BBMP officials have reported that the sewage flow into the Koramangala stormwater drain has decreased significantly, from 120 million litres per day to around 8 MLD, due to the successful implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. Despite this claim, local residents and businesses neighboring the drain continue to complain about the persistent foul odor and the presence of sewage in the water. The K-100 project, allotted Rs 175 crore by the government for redeveloping the drain infrastructure, covers a 9.2-km stretch from KR Market to Bellandur Lake and is slated for completion by the end of 2024. BBMP officials have taken steps to mitigate sewage entry, such as establishing a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant near Kalasipalya which purifies the sewage before releasing it into the stormwater drain. Additionally, infrastructure improvements including construction of a sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar by BWSSB are underway to further prevent sewage entry into the drain. The project also includes features like retaining walls, ground-level bridges, decorative lighting, landscaping, pedestrian walkways, and drainage systems to enhance the area. Service roads and pipelines have been constructed along the rajakaluve to prevent rainwater from mixing with sewage. BBMP initiated the project in 2021 with the goal of improving the drainage system and overall environment of the area.It was originally set to be completed by 2023 but missed multiple deadlines thereafter.
